Most of the population of the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal lives in the countryside. Here are many picturesque villages that contain different ethnic groups within the lap of the giant Himalaya range. Among them, Sirubari is one of the most beautiful villages in Nepal. Sirubari is a neat and clean, colorful village housing a compact farming community. The real attractions for the visitors are the people's unique culture, customs, rituals, and charming natural beauties.
Sirubari Village (1700 m) is located in Syangja District, southeast of beautiful Pokhara city. It is accessible from a 5/6 hour’s bus drive from Pokhara. The climate here is ideal at all times of the year, with no snow ever falling in the village itself. However, the ideal time to visit is between September and June. Villagers welcome you and invite you to stay in the home of one of the village families. The accommodation is simple but comfortable, with good bedding and clean toilet facilities. The food is delicious, and you will be treated as one of the family. Every evening there will be a Gurung cultural program show by the community, and you can join with them as you like. There is a Buddhist monastery, a simple but beautiful temple, which will be a feature of your tour in Sirubari. You may have a chance to get a blessing from the resident Lama before you leave.
Besides rich culture and hospitality in Sirubari, there is a huge prospect of mountain biking and rock climbing. Likewise, Sirubari houses 60 different types of herbs and 15 types of wild animals, which can be a subject for students and any researcher. Nowadays, it is seen that the only activity for a tourist in Sirubari is a hike to the popular viewpoint in Thumro for sunrise and sunset, which lies at 2300 m above sea level and is said to be the highest point in the south part of the village. Spread before are rolling foothills scattered with isolated farming communities and crowned by an array of snow peaks that will leave you breathless. The breathtaking view of Manaslu in the east, through Machhapuchare (fishtail), Annapurna, and around to Dhaulagiri giants—the Himalayas all line up for your camera to capture.
Most of the houses are built from the local materials and are well constructed and comfortable. The overwhelming impression of the village is one of venerable classiness, and it feels warm and welcoming because of it. The foot trails though the villages are all stone-paved. Being on the southern slopes of the ridge, the village enjoys long sunny days and is ideal for farming. We rarely find tourists who have already visited this village and were not impressed by the warm welcome and friendly family behavior of the locals. In May 2001, Sirubari was awarded the PATA Gold award in recognition of its efforts to preserve the culture and heritage of Nepal.
