Overview

Travel during the festival is a great experience of Bhutanese culture and tradition. The people of Bhutan have been celebrating many fasts and festivals every year for centuries. Nepal Mother House designed a special tour package focusing on the most famous festivals, such as the Paro Festival, Thimphu Festival, Punakha Festival, Ura Festival, and Bumthang Drup Festival. Most travelers target visiting Bhutan during the main festivals, so there will be overcrowding. Nepal Mother House advises that if you wish to visit one of the most famous festivals in Bhutan, you should try to book a trip at least six months before the date of the festival. To avoid crowds, it is wished to visit the less frequently visited festivals. These festivals are unique, but due to a lack of publicity, only a few tourists visit on this occasion.

In Bhutan, there are also newer themed community festivals that aim to encourage tourists to visit in different seasons and enjoy performances of Bhutanese traditions. Nomad festival - Bumthang, Rhododendron festival - Lamperi Botanical Park, Haa Summer festival - Haa Valley, Genekha Mushroom festival - Genekha, Matsutake Mushroom festival - Ura, Jomolhari Mountain festival - Jangothang, Black Necked Crane festival - Gangtey, Druk Wangyel festival - Dochu La are newer subject festivals of Bhutan.

Among the many festivals in Bhutan, the Thimphu Festival (Tsechu) is one of the most important. This tour package focuses on the activities of the Thimphu Festival. Thimphu Festival is a religious Buddhist festival that celebrates the honor of Guru Rinpoche, who introduced Buddhism to this country in the 8th century. According to history, Tenzin Rabgye, the 4th temporal ruler, established the Thimphu Tsechu festival in 1670 during the 8th month of the Bhutanese calendar to honor the birth of Guru Rinpoche.  People wear traditional dress and gather in the capital city of Thimphu to celebrate the festival.

On this festival, various dance performances belong to different histories with religious significance. The mask dance is special for this festival. The traditional dance by the Royal Academy of Performing Arts is interspersed with religious or mask dance.  It is believed that one who witnesses this festival will be bestowed with good luck, gain merits, and have their wishes realized. The Tsechu is also a yearly social gathering where people rejoice together.

The Thimphu Festival Tour has more than just religious significance; during this tour, you will visit most of the landmarks of Bhutan. You will visit the Paro Valley, Tiger Nest Temple (Taktsang), and Punakha. We at Nepal Mother House are glad to organize a Bhutan festival trip with expert local guides according to your requirements and time schedules.
