Overview

The Mardi Himal and ABC Trek is a 12-day adventurous journey that traverses the western part of the Himalayas. Walking through beautiful forests and fine villages, you will reach the base of Mt. Annapurna (8,091 m), the tenth-highest mountain in the world. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek, the Poon Hill Trek, and the Mardi Himal Trek are three very famous treks in the Annapurna region, and we at Nepal Mother House Treks have combined these three amazing treks to give you an ultimate venture.

Mardi Himal and ABC Trek are excellent options for someone who has never trekked, especially in the Himalayas. The trail does have its fair share of difficulty, but with the professionally designed Annapurna Base Camp Trek, the Mardi Himala Itinerary via Poon Hill, and strong team support, one can easily complete the trek. Due to its popularity, the trail can become crowded during the peak season. You can see travelers from all over the world on the route.

Annapurna Base Camp Trekking to Mardi Himal begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Ulleri via Nayapul. The road crosses the Modi Khola at Birethanti and turns on the left, gradually ascending along the Burundi Khola (stream) and villages like Hile and Tikhedhunga before getting to Ulleri. The road construction extends beyond Ulleri; however, it is not drivable past that point. Walk through the dense forests; you will then reach Ghorepani, a beautiful Pun/Poon Magar village surrounded by rhododendron forests and mesmerizing mountain views. Before leaving this village, you will hike to the most popular viewpoint, “Poon Hill,” to witness a gorgeous sunrise and trek towards the second part of the trip to Annapurna Base Camp, passing by Banthati, Tadapani, Chommrong, Dovan, Himalaya, and Deurali villages.

Afterwards, the trail descends to Bamboo, and you embark on a trek to Jhinu Danda, home to natural hot springs. Enjoy the hot spring and follow a downhill path along the Modi Khola to Langdruk Village. Then, ascend to Forest Camp, High Camp, and Mardi Himal as part of the third leg of the journey. Syauli Bazar via Siwa, from where you will drive back to Pokhara and then continue toward Kathmandu. As you pass by the villages, you will get to observe the culture and the traditions of the locals. Likewise, you can see their daily lifestyle and get to visit ancient stupas along the way. The locals are very friendly, and their warm hospitality is one of the trek's highlights.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Mardi Himal offers breathtaking landscapes and mountain scenery from a different angle. Along with that, you will be observing panoramic views of snow-capped Himalayan mountains like the Annapurna Range (8,091 m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6,441 m), Mt. Fishtail (6,993 m), Mt. Nilgiri (7,061 m), Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Tukuche Peak (6,920 m), Dhampus Peak (6,012 m), and so on. Mardi Himal with ABC Trek is no doubt the best way to immerse yourself in the tranquility of the magnificent Himalayas. Go through our useful information section to learn more about the package. Annapurna and Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek: Best Time

It used to be said that the most suitable time to do Annapurna Base Camp with the Mardi Himal Trek is from March to May and October to December. These months fall under spring and autumn, which are known as the best seasons for ABC Trek Poon Hill. The pleasant climate and stable weather make the views fantastic. You can see numerous species of flora along the way in spring. Likewise, in autumn, people all over Nepal celebrate the major festivals that add the essence of divinity to the journey. However, due to climate change around the globe, we at Nepal Mother House recommend that mid-September to June is a good time for this trek.

The temperature in the autumn ranges from 17 °C to -15 °C, and any kind of precipitation possibility is almost zero. Similarly, the temperature can get as low as -12 °C on the coldest days in spring. The climate in the lower parts of the trail in both seasons is much warmer. Pack warm clothes, and you will be fine. Annapurna and Mardi Himal Camp Trek via Poon Hill are possible in winter and summer as well, but these seasons are considered the off-season because of the unfavorable weather.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Distance:

During the ABC Trek with Mardi Himal, you will cover around 140 kilometers in our 12-day trip. The trek takes you to 4,130 meters, the highest point on the ABC Trek, and 4,500 meters at Mardi Himal Base Camp. Daily, you have to walk 10 kilometers—around 6 hours of walking on average.

Anyone with adequate stamina can complete the trail, which is considered moderate for novice hikers. You do not need to have prior trekking experience to go on this trek; however, excellent physical fitness will help you a lot.

Annapurna and Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek Accommodation:

During the trek, you stay overnight in teahouses. Throughout the Annapurna Base Camp Trek and Mardi Himal, accommodation facilities are available. To make sure you get the best accommodation, we will book rooms for you in advance during trekking peak seasons. The trail can get pretty busy during the peak trekking season. The teahouses are quite basic above the Chommrong to ABC and Mardi Himal, and services are limited but good enough for survival.

The rooms are generally small, with no heating facility. So, make sure to carry a good-quality sleeping bag. You can get a single room or share a room as per your requirements, but know that a single room may be pricier and might not always be available. The washroom can be private or shared.

Mardi Himal Trek with Annapurna Base Camp Difficulty:

The trail from Ghorepani to Annapurna Base Camp is moderate, which means rookie trekkers can also go on it. However, trekking in the Himalayas is not something you can do easily. Despite its easy path, the trek will be tiring if you're not fit. Likewise, there will be many steep and sloped sections along with rugged paths. You will also be in remote areas with limited, basic facilities.

It's a challenge to test your endurance and survive with minimal facilities. You must also avoid altitude sickness, which can happen if you don't acclimatize properly.  Our ABC and Mardi Himal Trek itinerary is designed with rest days in between the treks that will give your body ample time to adjust to the elevation.

Annapurna and Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek Permits:

Annapurna and Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill fall under the Annapurna Conservation Area. You have to get the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit from the government of Nepal to go on this trek. Along with that, you also have to get TIMS Cards (Trekkers Information Management System), which ensures the safety of trekkers in Nepal.

  • ACAP try permit fee for foreigners: 3,000 NPR (approximately USD 30)
  • ACAP entry permit fee for SAARC nationals: 200 NPR
  • TIMS permit: 1,000 NPR (approximately USD 10)
  • TIMS permit for SAARC nationals: NPR 600 (approximately USD 6)

You can get these permits from the Nepal Tourism Board Office located on Pradarshani Marg, Kathmandu, or the Nepal Tourism Board Service Center in Damside, Pokhara. Similarly, the permits are also available at the ACAP entry permit counter in Besisahar, Lamjung. Whereas, TIMS cards are available at the TAAN office in both Kathmandu and Pokhara.

*Note: If you are trekking with a local agency, then they will arrange all the necessary permits and documents for you.
