Overview

Everest Short Trek is an ideal trip to the highest national park in the world, Sagarmatha National Park, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 5-Day Everest Short Trek is one of the best options for travelers who would like to see Mt. Everest in the shortest time. It is a comparatively short but straightforward walk in the heart of the Himalayas, including the top of the world, “Mt. Everest (8,848.86 m),” and other wonderful mountains. It is a mixture of amazing natural beauty, Sherpa’s culture with the ancient Buddhist monastery, and unique culture. Everest Short Trek is one of the best trekking experiences in the Sherpa homeland without any effort at high altitude.

Short Everest Trekking leads you into the heart of the Khumbu region after the short scenic flight to Lukla. Then follow the Dhudhakoshi River through the Sherpa Villages, Chaurikharka, Ghat, and Phakding, and enter Sagarmatha National Park at Manjo. The trail continues through the river bank and across the Hillary suspension bridge, the highest and last before ascending Namche Bazaar. On the trail, you often see the amazing landscape behind you; somewhere on the turning, you can see Mt. Everest from the first view of the trip. And when you get to Namche, a traditional business transit point between Tibet and Nepal, you can still visit some Tibetan people selling goods around town. There is a market fair every week on Saturday, with people selling and buying things in one place. On the acclimatization day at Namche, visit the Sherpa Museum and the Sagarmatha National Park office at the top of the village for information about Everest.

The sunrise and sunset views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Mt. Amadablam, Thamserku, Kusumkangaru, Kangteka, Kwangde, etc. are astonishing. Inside the National Park, you have sight of musk deer, snow leopards, bears, wild goats (Jharal), Himalayan cocks, Impeyan pheasants, wild pigeons, etc., and vegetation during the 5-Day Everest View Short Trek. The Everest Easy Trek will be worthwhile after visiting the Hilari School, a historical monastery in Khumjung Village, Khunde Hospital, Hillary Viewpoint/Gong-Ri (4,200 m), 45 minutes walking distance from Khunde Village, Syangbuche Airport, Everest View Hotel, and Yak Farm. You have a 360-degree view of the magnificent mountains and panorama from here.

These 5-Day Everest Short Treks are best for short-time trekkers to see the top of the world without suffering from high altitude. You will go back to Lukla, collecting a bunch of experiences from this short trip. Nepal Mother House Treks arranges the Everest Short Trek throughout the year according to your holiday schedule and requirements. We will ensure your satisfaction with our long-range export trekking guide and staff.

Why is the cost so expensive for the only 5-day Everest Short Trek? Is this fair?

Well, due to the Kathmandu/Ramechhap airfare being very high, the Everest Short Trek seems very expensive. The cost for even a 2-day trek or a 26-day trek is the same. It means you need to take a flight to get to Lukla in the shortest time possible. However, there are everyday jeep services available to drive from Kathmandu to Lukla, which will help minimize the trek cost. But you need to add two extra days to get to Kathmandu and be ready for an adventurous drive through the off-road.

Sometimes, you might meet some individual trekkers who are concerned about cost, and you might feel that this is a lot of money you have paid. It is true; the cost of a Lukla flight is almost USD 200 per person for a single way, including Ramechhap transport. Then you need to fly back to Kathmandu, and this is another USD 200. Then, where are your guide expenses, your trekking permits, meals, accommodation, tea, and coffee? Can you please calculate it yourself? And as we are a trekking agency, we also need to charge services and pay government tax and VAT.

How Can I Get to Lukla During a Short Everest Trek?

During the peak tourist season, flights operate from Kathmandu or Ramechhap, a 4 to 5-hour drive from Kathmandu, where a short Everest trek commences. As Lukla does not have road access so far, flight is the most common means of transport to Lukla. To reach the road, you must walk for 2 to 3 hours at Paiya and then take a 15- to 16-hour Jeep drive back to Kathmandu.

Information on getting to Lukla for a short Everest trek:

Take a regular flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.

Flying to Lukla is the most popular option for the Everest View Short Trek. The flight is conducted early in the morning from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. It takes 25 to 30 minutes to see an amazing mountain view and landscape. But during the trekking peak season (March, April, May, October, and November), the flight will divert to the Manthali airport at Ramechhap. Due to air traffic at Kathmandu airport, it is a 4 to 5-hour drive from Kathmandu.

Book a flight on a reliable airline:

Due to a few airlines (Tara Air, Sita Air, and Summit Air, etc.), Lukla flights have high demand, especially during the trekking seasons. We recommended booking your flight in advance to ensure seat availability at your convenience.

Landed at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla:

Lukla is well known as the most challenging airport in the world due to its short runway of only 527 m, with an 11.7% gradient slope, and its terrain surrounded by beautiful mountains.

Short Everest Trekking Start from Lukla:

The short journey to Everest begins from Lukla, through the Sherpa homeland, Ghat, Phakding, Manjo, and Namche Bazaar, then gets to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) for an astonishing mountain view. The well-marked trail leads you through the world's highest Sagarmath National Park, listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as an eyewitness to rare wildlife, colorful birds, and invaluable vegetation.

Where Do I Visit During the Short Everest Trek?

The Short Everest Trek is a way to experience the heart of the Khumbu region with minimal effort from Kathmandu. This trip offers a glimpse of the stunning beauty of the Everest region without visiting Everest Base Camp. The trek's main attraction is the mountain scenery, which includes the world's highest peak, Mt. Everest (8,884.8.86 m), among others. Likewise, the world's most challenging airports, Lukla Airport, Sagarmatha National Park, Sherpa culture, Buddhist Monastery, Stupa, rock painting with precious Buddhist mantra, suspension bridge, ancient trading point Namche Bazaar, mountains transport porters, Yaks, Khumjung Village with Hillary School, Hillary Visiter Center, Monstery, Khunde Hospital, Hillary Viewpoint above the Khunde (Gong-Ri 4,200m), Syangboche Airport, Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC), and Sherpa Museum, etc. are attractions of this trek.

Do I need a guide for this trip? Is a guide mandatory?

Well, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), a guide is compulsory while trekking in Nepal for the guest's safety and actual information. However, according to the local government of the Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, trekkers can trek without a guide or porter. Although most of the trekkers prefer hiring experienced guides and porters who are familiar with the region, the trails can help with logistics and mitigate any uncommon issues if they happen.

Kathmandu to Lukla Flight Issue

This is to inform you that during the trekking peak season, all Lukla flights will be conducted from Manthali Airport at Ramechhap due to Lukla weather and air traffic at Kathmandu Airport. For that, you need to drive either early in the morning, 2 to 3 ½ AM, the same day of the flight from your hotel; please be ready before 3:00 AM, or drive to Ramechhap one day before the flight date. If you drive in the morning, there is no regular public jeep; you need to drive a jeep or bus for several passengers. You need to drive from Kathmandu to Manthali Airport at Ramechhap for about 4 to 5 hours, and then fly from Ramechhap to Lukla onward to your trip. The cost includes all shared transportation costs, eliminating any additional expenses for you. However, if you choose to drive a private car, you will incur additional costs. Contact us for the cost.

Flight delays can range from an hour to several days due to uncontrollable weather conditions. In such instances, we have the option to either wait for improved weather conditions or choose an alternative mode of transportation, such as taking a Jeep to Salleri/Kharikhola/Thamdanda or changing the destination.

Yes, you are right, March to April is trekking peak season. If we go back to previous years 2023, the flights were operated from Ramechhap to Lukla from April to mid of May as the choice of Lukla flights is typically made to avoid congestion and potential delays at Kathmandu Airport, especially during peak trekking seasons. So, I hope this year also, the flight will conducted from Kathmandu to Lukla during March.

If you need to fly from Ramechhap, the private car from Kathmandu to Manthali Airport at Ramechhap will be USD 110 to 150 for one way.  The private car is much more comfortable to drive 4 to 5 hours to get in.

Spring (March, April, May) and Autumn (September, October, November) are considered good times for the trek due to good weather with picturesque mountain scenery, however, during the spring have more chances the see flowers such as Rhododendrons, and and and and Magnolia etc. and meet many expedition group for Everest. Autumn is perfect weather with festive seasons such as Dashain, Tihar/Dipawali, and Chhath.
