Overview

Kala Pathar Trek is a combination of Mt. Everest Base Camp and the popular viewpoint Kalapathar. As most trekkers have a dream to visit Mt. Everest at least once in a lifetime, all the tea houses and trekking trails have become crowded during the high season. But Everest Base Camp Kala Pathar Trekking gives you access to the Sagarmatha National Park through the alternative trail to make the trip unique. The destination is the same as the EBC Trek package, but we guide you to a different experience through the wilderness side trip and a less frequented tail. If possible, we should take an alternative route while coming down to Lukla rather than retrace the same trail.

The Kala Pathar Trektrail goes through the heart of the Himalayas, following the river bank, Sherpa villages, amazing mountain scenery, rare flora, and fauna. Unique Sherpa culture, century-old Buddhist monastery, Chorten, Manewall, and hard of Yaks add charm while walking beneath the gigantic Himalaya. Often, you need to cross the suspension bridge above the raging river. It makes you feel a bit of fear and a lot of joy. During EBC Kalapathar Trekking, the trail goes inside the Sagarmatha National Park, where you might have a chance to sight wild animals such as the Himalayan Goat (Thar/Jharal), Musk Dear, colorful birds (“Daphe”), Nepal National Birds, and many other species. Khumbu is the land of the Snow Leopard and the land of the mysterious creature Yeti. Mount Everest Base Camp, the most famous viewpoint, Kalapathar/Kalapatar, Khumbu Glacier, Khumbu Icefall, Glacier Lakes, and breathtaking mountain scenery, including Mt. Everest, are landmarks of the Everest Kalapathar Trek.

Everest Base Camp Kalapathar Trekking begins at Lukla after a short scenic flight from the capital city of Kathmandu. Then walk through the Sherpa Villages: Chaurikharka, Ghat, Phakding, and Manjo, often following the Dhudha Koshi Riverbank and pine and rhododendron forests. We recommend taking a break at Namche Bazaar to properly acclimate the body before ascending to high elevations. On this day, you may visit the Sagarmatha National Park information center, Sherpa Museum, Monastery, Everest View Hotel, Syangbuche, and Khumjung Village for Yeti Skull. Continue to walk to Mt Everest Base Camp through the Tengboche, Pangbuche, and Dingboche villages. To make your trip unique, we suggested visiting one of the best viewpoints, Nangkhar Tshang Peak (5,615 m), just above Dingboche. From there, you have a 360-degree view of many mountains, including the three world's highest mountains, Mt. Makalu (8,463 m), Lhotse (8,749 m), Cho Oyu (8,201 m), and Imja Valley. Finally, get to Mt. Everest Base Camp, an elevation of 5,360 meters, through Lobuche. Gorekshep is the last stop of this trekking route. From Kalapathar, one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region, you can witness numerous mountains, particularly Mt. Everest, from a close distance. Except for the freezing cold, the sunrise and sunset views are best from Kalapathar.

Collecting lifetime experience in the Himalayas, you will come down the same trail till Pangbuche and take an alternative trail to Porche village to avoid crowds. Most of the trekkers use the main trekking trail, but we at Nepal Mother House try to make your trip different from others, so our expert local Sherpa guide leads through the beautiful villages that only a few trekkers have explored yet. The EBC Trek goes to Phortse/Phorche Village, Khumjung, Khunde, and Thame, and back to Lukla. You can do Kala Pathar EBC Trekking year-round, but we at Nepal Mother House recommend spring (March–May) and autumn (Sept–November). Except for the cold, winter is also a perfect time for EBC Trek. Here we have designed the Everest Kala Patthar Trek for 18 days; however, you can customize your trip according to your requirements. If this trip is not suitable, you may like to sign up for the 10 Days Short Everest Base Camp Trek, Budget Everest Base Camp Trek 12 Days, Everest Base Camp Trek 14 Days, 16 Days Everest Base Camp Track, or EBC Trek Fly Back by Helicopter 9 Days. Join Trek to Kala Patthar with us for your dream to come true.
