Jumolhari Trek is the most popular adventure trip in Bhutan. It is a combination of cultural, religious, and mountain scenery. Jumolhari Trek begins in the beautiful city of Paro, where you will visit most attraction sites around Paro Valley, including the famous Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery.

The Jumolhari Trek goes through the remote countryside at the foot of the Himalayas. This trip is organized as a camping trip, where you will have meals and stay overnight in a tented camp, the site surrounded by nature beauties. During the Jumolhari trip, you will spend the night at Drukgyel Dzong (Paro), Shana, Soi Thangthangka, Jangothang Base Camp (4050 m), Jangothang, Dhumzo Chhu, Thombu Shong, and back to Shana, Drugyel Dzong, and Paro. The trail goes through the Himalaya plateau with high passes: Bonte La (4890 m), Dhunge La (4700 m), and Tagulun La (4540 m).. As this is an adventure trip at a high altitude, we recommend it only for adventure travelers who like to explore wilderness in the Himalayan and nature scenery. You will see different vegetation, from richly forested valleys to high alpine pastureland where Yak herders graze their animals. Heard of The Blue Ship can be seen and glacier marine, mountain scenery, and glacier lakes are amazing.

During the Jumolhari trek, you will have streaking views of Mount Jichu Drake (6989 m), Tshrim Khang (6789 m), Jumolhari/Chomolhari Mountain (7314 m), and other mountains beyond Bhutan, like Kanchanjungha, Makalu's spectacular view. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September and October) are best for the Jumolhari trek. April and May are the best times for rhododendron blooms, whereas Bhutan observes its biggest festivals during this time. Jumolhari Trekking Itinerary

According to our trip itinerary, you will fly Kathmandu to Paro, it takes about 1 hour 15 munities. But you can get in Bhutan from your home town or any appropriate location. While your flight get nears Bhutan, you will enjoy amazing views of the Himalayas including the sacred Jumolhari Mountain and Jichu Drake peas. At the Paro international airport, the representative of Nepal Mother House will be greeted you and drive to the hotel. As this is your first day trip in Bhutan, you will visit Rinpung Dzong Monastery; the monastery reflects its history, belief and faith since establish date 1646 to now. This is very important monastery as district Monastic Body of Paro and government administrative offices of Paro Dzongkhag. Next, you will visit one of the oldest Monasteries “Kichu Lhakhang”, which was built in 659 AD by Tibetan King Songtsen Gyampo. Then you will visit the national museum, once it was a fortified lookout tower but has now been changed into the National Museum. In the museum you will observe a wide collection of ancient paintings, armors, philatelic displays and a “field of Buddhas”, which helps one visualize while meditating. You will stay overnight in Paro.

Day Highlights

This is your second day trip, after breakfast, you will hike 4 to 5 hours to the Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery (3,180m), located on the side of Paro Valley hangings on a cliff and stands above a beautiful forest of blue pine and rhododendrons. Guru Padmasambhava, popularly known as Guru Rinpoche (spiritual master), who mediated three years, three months, three days and three hours and got enlighten. He transfers as tiger, then it literally known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The Monastery was blessed and sanctified as one of Bhutan’s most sacred religious sites. The monastery lies in edge of the clief about 3000 ft from Paro Valley. While walk about two hours you will get the cafeteria, from where you have amazing view of the Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery and Paro valley. Still you like to walk to the Taktsang, you need to walk another one hour. You will have lunch in the restaurant, located about halfway up the mountain. After explored the Tiger Nest monastery, you will hike down to the Paro valley basin for overnight at hotel.

Day Highlights

The trip start form Drukgyel Dzong ( Paro) after having breakfast, as this is first day walk, you might be curious about trail, this is a pleasant walk through the forests and following the left side of the Pachu River. This about 15 Km walk to get in destination. Sometime you will walk through the farm road passes a number of small countryside villages. As this is traditional village, the houses are full of arts and built in traditional way. During the September to November you will see rice and vegetable fields nearby village. While you walk about an hour’s, the farm road ends at Mitsizamp. Then you will cross a bridge to the right side of the river, then the trail ascend gradually for another hour through the jungle to Zakhapang (2,600m), where you will break for the lunch break. After having the lunch the trail goes continues through blue pine forests, following the river bank. Before reach your today destination at Shana, you will see Gunyitsawa army outpost. The campsite set at Shana (2,820m) in a beautiful open space surrounded by blue pine forest. There are just few traditional houses nearby our campsite.

Day Highlights

Today is the longest trekking day entire trip; it takes about seven to eight hours walk for the 20 Km trail of today day the campsite destination. At the begging, the trail continues to follow the river with gradually ascending through a mixed forest of blue pine and oak and, then tall rhododendron trees, birch, fir and maple. Sometime the trail is rocky and bumpy path, it is not laborious but during the rainy time it can be quite muddy. There are several wooden bridges for today hike. We will take lunch break at Shing Karap or Thombuzam (3,305m), after about 4 hours walking. There are several trails, which lead in other directions, it makes confuse, but as our expert Guide will lead you in right way, you will see one trail to Tremo la, which was the traditional salt-trading route to Tibet. Finally, you will see ridge with a Chorten, where our campsite will fixed nearby. You have spectacular view of Jumolhari Mountain (7,326m) at the end of the valley. The view is amazing colorful during the sunset and sunrise time. Stay overnight as tented camp.

Day Highlights

This is your third day trek, as today is not long hiking day, you may start little bit late or leisure somewhere best place. When get in army check post, you need to stop for register entry permits issued by the army headquarters in Thimphu. Our Guide will be taken care to register permits and paper work. Again the trail follow Pachu River bank on the right side and passes through some small scattered villages. It will take less than four hours to reach Jangothang Base Camp (4,000m) with 12 Km distance. You have wonderful Mountain View to the Northeast from Jangothang Base and in the evening the profile of the ruined Jangothang Dzong, populated by huge ravens creates a mystical atmosphere. This is hub of bird life, where you will see Fire-tailed Sunbird, Ibisbill, White throated Dipper, Yellow-billed Chough, Rosy Pipit, Snow Pigeon, Blue-fronted Redstart, Plumbeous Water Redstart, Blood Pheasant, Snow Partridge and many more. Stay overnight at tented camp in beautiful place.

Day Highlights

Today is a rest day after several days hike. And is acclimatization day to the high place. This rest day will helps to acclimatize your body in the high altitude. Your body needs time to adjust in circumstance temperatures, especially during the night. During acclimatization day, you might be visit twin lakes of Tshophu about 2 hours leisure hike. Or just wonder around Jangothang, enjoy wonderful mountains views. The day hiking at higher altitude is best for high altitude. You can also enjoy the view of Cone-shape Jichu Drakey cannot fail to remind the clear blue sky. Jichu Drakey is the most beautiful mountain in Bhutan.

Day Highlights

The day trip starts after having breakfast. On the way to Dhumzo you will see Mt. Jhomolhari (7,326m), Jitchu Drake and the Jhomolhari camp site valley view. The trail goes through the several yaks harder’s tent, Tsho Phu lakes and amazing atmosphere. Often you see a flock of Himalayan blue Sheep, grazing high up near the rocky slopes. If your luck favor, you may see the Snow Leopard or just footprint around the Bonte La pass. The trail ascends till Bonte La (4890m) as highest pass of this trek. The view from here are astonishing, you can see Basingthang Peaks (5500m), Chatarake, Djo Drake, Jo Darkey (5570m) and Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. You will spend some time to enjoy the beautiful scenery, have a snack and water and hang some prayer flags at Bonte La for your devotion to the God. From here the trail drops through a steep and narrow gully with gravel and loose rocks till you reached Dhumzo in our destination. The whole trail of today is 16 Km. The Soi Yaksa Valley is a beautiful site with impressive rock cliffs, waterfalls, deep side valleys, and snow- covered peaks. Stay overnight at the tented camp.

Day Highlights

At the begging of the day, the trail ascends through rhododendron, birch, oak forest draped in moss brings you to a meadow with huge Juniper tree and then lead s to Dhunge La (4700m) then to Tagulun La (4540m). You have better view of Jhomolhari, Jitchu Drake and Teri Kang, and in the distance Kanchenjunga (85840m) and even Makalu (8463m) blocking the view to Mount Everest. The Thungbue camp also can be seen from here, where we sleep overnight after 11 Km walking. Thangbue is a valley, with several stone huts; it is busy in spring and autumn with number of families and hundreds of yaks, horses, dogs and goats for their animal husbandry. This is the second highest camp entire trek.

Day Highlights

Today, the day trip begins after having breakfast. At first you will cross the valley through a swampy area to a clear trail through rhododendron bushes climbing steeply to Thombu La (4270m). You can see several mountain peaks awesome view from the top of the Thombu La. The day trip makes enjoyable while walk on ridge from the pass, you are walking very high above the valleys on a good trail with a beautiful scenery. Then, the trail drops steeply for 2 to 3 hours till you reach to the Shana for the night’s camp on a pleasant site by the Paro Chhu. This is about 12 Km walk entire day.

Day Highlights

This is exactly reverse trail of Days 03 about 4 to 5 hours walk for 15 Km. You will hike through the lovely valley with bueatiful scenery. The hiking trip finish at Drugyel Dzong, where your transport waiting to take you to your hotel in Paro. Stay overnight at Hotel.

Day Highlights

In morning you will driveabout 2 hours to the beautiful capital city Thimphu. You will have lunch in the restaurant, at Thimphu. Then you will drive about 55 km to the capital city Thimphu, and stay overnight at hotel. Now you sightseeing trip begins at Thimpu. At the begging day tour you will visit Memorial Chorten, which is built in 1974 as memory of Bhutan’s third King “His Late Majesty, King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk (1952-1972)”, who is regarded as Father of modern Bhutan. Then visit to nunnery temple, mini zoo to see National animal Takin. We visit other several landmarks of Thimphu including the National Institute of Traditional Medicine, Bhutanese traditional painting school, folk heritage museum, the majestic Tashichho Dzong and the traditional paper factory of Bhutan. Some landmarks are closed in the weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). Therefore, if you are in Thimphu during the weekends, we explore the Weekend Market instead. Stay overnight in Thimphu.

Day Highlights

The day trip is start after having breakfast at Thimphu. Our driver drive to Punakha for 2 ½ hours with short stop at Dochula pass. It is scenic drive to Punakha, we stop for tea at Dochu La Pass (3,100 meters), where the spectacular mountains view can see on a clear day. From here, we drive downhill through rhododendron, fir and hemlock beautiful forests. Now the road goes through the rice fields along rivers river banks and finally reaches confluence of the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu, where is it Punakha. After refreshment and having lunch, we visit Punakha Dzong Monastery; it was built in 1637-1638, often referred to as the 'Palace of Happiness' and is the second oldest and second largest Dzong in Bhutan. Punakha Dzong is the second oldest and the second largest Dzong in Bhutan. Stay overnight at hotel in Punakha. Stay overnight in hotel at Punakha.

Day Highlights

Today, you will drive back about 3 to 4 hours to Paro. After having breakfast, we drive to Yabesa village and hike to through rice fields and village up to Khamsum Yueley Namgyal Chorten, which built by her majesty the queen Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuk. You walk on the edge of the high hill and drop down to on the bank of the river, the Chorten houses paintings belonging to Nyingmapa Traditions. Then we drive back to Paro about 3 to 4 hours via capital city Thimphu, where you may visit the National Library housing, it is collection of Bhutanese scriptures dating back to the 8th century and a fascinating replica of a medieval farmhouse at the Folk Heritage Museum. Meanwhile we visit handicraft and souvenir stores, if you are interested to buy some souvenir this is best place. Fanailly you will get in hotel at Pro. Stay overnight at your hotel in Paro.

Day Highlights

Today we organize farewell program to you, accordingly to Bhutan’s hospitality. After early breakfast, we will drive Thimpu to Paro airport for your home destination; it takes about one and half hour. Generally, the national aircraft company Druk Air departs in the early morning to avoid unfavorable weather conditions. Therefore, you need to departure early in the morning, after having breakfast.
