Overview

Mohare Danda Trek is a newly opened trekking trail that traverses around the foothills of Annapurna. Mohare Danda Trek is also known as Mohare Danda Community Trek, which is made to develop and support the local community along the route. Moreover, Mohare Danda Trekking is also the best way to give back to the locals and be eco-friendly. The trek offers beautiful views, remote villages, dense forests, and friendly locals.

The trail ascends through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, fir, pine, etc., and passes by orange orchards. While staying for a night in the villages, you will get to see the simple lifestyle of the locals and their distinct cultures, traditions, and norms. The trek offers stunning views of the Annapurna Range (8,091 m) and the Dhaulagiri Range (8,167 m). Likewise, from the top of the Mohare Danda, which is a hill, you can see the tempting landscape, gorgeous sunrise/sunset, and other snow-capped peaks like Mt. Nilgiri (7,061 m), Mt. Tukuche (6,920 m), Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,993 m), etc.

The Mohare Danda Khopra Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara that further continues to Galeshwar, the starting point of the trek. The trail then gradually ascends through a forested path and a few steep sections. You pass by villages like Banskharka and Nadi Village before reaching Mohare Danda. The trail then descends to Nayapul, where the trek ends, and you will drive back to Pokhara.

Mohare Danda Trek is the best way to have a short retreat and take you away from the bustle of the city. The trail is not crowded because not many trekkers know about this route, and it presents a tranquil and peaceful journey. Mohare Danda Trekking is also a good alternative to the famous Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. You can check our Mohare Danda Trek map to learn in detail about the Mohare Danda Trek itinerary and route. Mohare Danda Trek: Best Time

The best time to do the Mohare Danda Trek is from March to April (spring) and October to November (autumn). These two seasons are considered perfect for trekking to Mohare Danda because of the stable weather and pleasant climate. The temperature remains moderate, with clear views and bright sunny days. You will feel a little cold in the mornings and at night. Likewise, in spring, the trail blooms up with numerous floras, and autumn has its festive scent to it.

Monsoon and winter are the off-seasons. The trail gets muddy and slippery, along with high chances of landslides in the monsoon. Likewise, in winter, thick layers of fog block the views, and heavy snowfall increases the chances of blockage of the trail.

Mohare Danda Trek Weather

The post-monsoon period (autumn): The region sees a decrease in rainfall from early September. The climate begins to get colder as the subsequent months arrive with warm days and cold nights/mornings. The daily temperature ranges from 0 °C to 30 °C. Usually, in late November, the temperature begins to fall below -0 °C. Likewise, the days start to get shorter.

The pre-monsoon period (spring): From March onwards, the region begins to warm along with a hint of coldness in the air at night or in the mornings. There can be occasional rainstorms in the afternoon. The temperature during the day can reach up to 30 °C or more in the lower elevations. The higher parts of the trail are mostly covered with snow. The surrounding area welcomes diverse vegetation, and greenery begins to evolve.

Mohare Danda Trek Community Accommodation

Mohare Danda Community Trek offers homestays and lodges along the way. You will get the best available accommodation while trekking with us. The accommodation offers basic services like rooms (mostly shared rooms), private/shared washrooms, and dining. In some places, you may get charging and hot shower facilities for free, while there are chances you might have to pay a few extra bucks to utilize these services. The accommodation on this trek is built by the community and goes to the local people for their welfare and holistic community development.

Likewise, the meals are served as per the menu of the lodge/homestay. You can expect to see Nepali, Indo-Chinese, and Continental dishes on the menu. Likewise, drinking water is also available throughout the trail. You can refill the bottle as it gets empty. We also recommend you carry water purification tablets to double-purify the water.

Mohare Danda Trek Itinerary

Due to the development process of the road, the trekking trail transformed to the higher Himalayas in the Annapurna Region, so the Mohare Danda developed as a recently opened trekking route for nature lovers as a new model of trekking whose benefits go directly to the local communities. This is an alternative trail in the Annapurna to escape the crowd of trekkers, such as Poon Hill.

Mohare Danda is located southwest of the Annapurna Conservation Area and starts from the town called Galeshwor, Myagdi district, Dhaulagiri zone, 3 kilometers from Beni. After 4 to 5 hours of driving from Pokhara (86 km), you can join the trail that leads to the top of the Mohare Danda after crossing the Kaligandaki River, through the typical villages of Banskharka, Dora Danda, Danda Ketari, Banwade, and Nagi, then downhill to the wilderness trail to the Danda Kharka, Pyari Barahi Tal, Thula Kharka, Tikot, and Histan. Normally, this trek can be completed in 5 days from Pokhara as the shortest; however, the trip can extend to the Khopra Ridge Trek via the most popular Pon Hill Trek or make it longer up to the Annapurna Base Camp

If you are looking to visit the most popular viewpoints, Poon Hill, Charming Village Ghorepani, and a mix of classical and modern villages, Ghandruk, you may extend the one-day Mohare Danda Trek. This is the combination of the recently opened Nagi Mohare Danda community lodge trek and the most popular Poon Hill tea house trek.

MOHARE DANDA COMMUNITY ECO-LODGE TREK FAQs

If you want to do the Mohare Danda Trek solo, then it's possible. The trial is not difficult; however, it is one of the less-visited trails in the Himalayas. It makes the region remote and the route less crowded. The chances are high; you might not see any fellow trekkers on the way as well. In case of an emergency, you might not have anyone around you to help you. Therefore, we highly suggest you hire a guide, at least, and do not travel alone unless you are aware of the trial and have previous trekking experience in the Himalayas.

Mohare Danda Trek is known as the community Eco-Lodge Tour; you’ll be staying overnight at the lodge which is owned by the community or someone's house as a homestay.
