As the ABC Trek via Poon Hill goes through the Annapurna Conservation Area, most of the trail goes through the jungle inhabited by snow leopards, deer, wild goats, and many more wildlife and diverse vegetation. The trail leads you to different tea houses at Tadapani, Chhomrong, Sinuwa, Bambo, Dobhan, Himalaya, Deurali, Machhapuchre Base Camp (3,700 m), and the final destination at Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m). It is unforgettable walking in the wilderness of the Himalayas, following the bank of Modi Khola after Chhomrong, and making a narrow gorge between two gigantic mountains, Machhapuchre (Fishtail) and Hunchuli. People refer to the sacred area beyond the Himalayan Hotel as Annapurna Sanctuary, as it prohibits animal sacrifices.  Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill is a key attraction of this trip. The glacier view from a close distance, the icefall, and the wonderful mountain views during sunset and sunrise make your journey more pleasant.

The trail retraces to Chhomrong village, and it drops at Jhinudanda for a natural hot spring. The Gurung community primarily resides in this area. Once you've gathered a wealth of unforgettable experiences, you'll walk to Siwa village (1230 m) and then drive back to Pokhara. We at Nepal Mother House are glad to organize the Annapurna Base Camp Poon Hill Trek with expert local guides and porters according to your holiday schedule. You can complete the Annapurna Base Camp Trek through Ghorepani in 8 days, but we recommend a 14-day trip for a more enjoyable experience.  We are here for your heartfelt welcome.

Nayapul: The Gateway of Annapurna Base Camp Adventure

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill normally starts from Nayapul/Birethanti, which is accessible by road from the lakeside town of Pokhara. However, the road track is open beyond Ulleri to Banthanti, so during the dry season you can drive to Banthanti. Then, follow a well-marked trail that takes you through various charming villages and lush rhododendron forests to Ghorepani, Tadapani, Chhomrong, and Deurali. Continue to Machapuchare Base Camp (MBC) and Annapurna Base Camp (ABC).

Exploring the Himalayas: Duration of Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Poon Hill Experience

The ABC Trek via Poon Hill's duration can be different; however, most trekkers conclude this trek in 9 to 14 days. The required actual time for this trek depends on your walking pace and the particular itinerary you choose. If you are physically fit, a 9-day hike will suffice to visit Annapurna Base Camp via Poon Hill, a popular destination for elderly people, while a more leisurely trek could take 12 to 14 days.

Ascending Heights: Elevation of Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Poon Hill

The Annapurna Base Camp trek with Poon Hill takes you through a different range of elevations; the minimum elevation will be around 1,010 meters at the start point, Nayapul, to over 4,130 meters at Annapurna Base Camp. As this trekking route gradually ascends, it allows for acclimatization and minimizes the risk of high-altitude sickness. You need to take care of altitude sickness and mitigate the risk by getting plenty of rest, drinking enough fluid, getting enough sleep, and eating a balanced diet.

Cozy Comfort to Simple: Teahouse Accommodation on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill

ABC Trek via Poon Hill is a well-known teahouse trek; you'll find teahouses and lodges throughout the trek that offer basic accommodation and meals. These facilities make it a relatively comfortable, less expensive, and accessible trek for most hikers. But it's a good idea to make reservations during peak trekking seasons due to the overcrowding of trekkers and the small number of teahouses. Most of the places offer private rooms with shared toilets and bathrooms; however, some places like Ulleri, Ghorepani, Chhomrong, and Jhinudanda can get rooms with attached baths and toilets.

Similarly, the majority of accommodations above Chhomrong village are simple, accommodating 4 to 6 people in a single room with separate beds. The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) oversees all hotel management due to its minimal impact on the government, while ABC has access to a limited number of tea houses.

Poon Hill: Sunrise Spectacle in Annapurna Region

Poon Hill is a famous viewpoint along the Annapurna Base Camp Trail, and it's known for one of the best spectacular sunrise and sunset views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Most of the hikers stay overnight at Ghorepani to enjoy the sunrise from Poon Hill before heading on their journey to Annapurna Base Camp. If you are passionate about seeing the mesmerizing mountain view, it is suggested that you visit Poon Hill during sunset, where you will escape the crowd of people in beautiful nature.

Perfect Timing: Best Time for the ABC via Poon Hill Trek

This trek is accessible all year round; however, there are two main trekking seasons in Nepal: spring and autumn. The best time for the ABC Trek via Poon Hill to see the colorful rhododendron jungle is during spring (March to May), especially mid-April when the rhododendrons bloom. Autumn (September to November) is also ideal for hiking due to favorable weather and stunning views. During these seasons, there is a festive vibe as major festivals like Dashain and Tihar/Dipawali occur. You may be enjoying yourself with locals, creating lifelong memories by celebrating together.

Navigating Regulations: Permits Required for the ABC via Poon Hill Trek

For this trek, you need to obtain the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card. You can get those permits through the government-registered trekking company in Kathmandu or Pokhara. The permits can be ready before you arrive in Nepal if you provide your passport copy and two PP-size pictures along with the permit fee.

Trekking Challenges: Assessing the Difficulty Level of ABC via Poon Hill Trek

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill falls into the moderate difficulty category. The trail frequently features steep ascents and descents, particularly after Chhomorang Village. So, it's suitable for most hikers with a reasonable level of fitness and tolerance for the ups and downs of difficult trails. This trek is not for you if it's your first in Nepal and you're not fit. According to most of the clients, the route is considered a more difficult walk than the hike to Everest Base Camp, except for the lower elevation and greenery. It is true that to get water, you need to dig deep into the earth. After reaching Annapurna Base Camp, you won’t regret the journey.

Unveiling Beauty: Highlights of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Poon Hill

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill offers various landscapes, including rice-terraced fields, dense forests, and high mountain scenery. You'll also have the opportunity to experience the rich culture of the local Gurung and Magar communities, which spans centuries. The museum in Ghorepani/Ghodepani represents the life of the local community, “Pun Magar,” and their traditions. Additionally, the highlights of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill include the vantage point of Poon Hill/Pun Hill viewpoint, Annapurna Base Camp, monasteries, temples, serene holy places, warm hospitality from the local people, wildlife, birds, and aromatic vegetation.

Annapurna Base Camp: Gateway to Himalayan Majesty

Annapurna Base Camp is the main attraction of this trek, where you can get up close to the view of the breathtaking mountains, including Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Himchuli (6,441 m), Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,993 m), Mt. Gangapurna (7,455 m), Annapurna III (7,555 m), Tent Peak/Singa Chuli (6,501 m), etc. Particularly at sunrise and sunset, you can witness the Annapurna Glacier and Icefall and take in the tranquility of this high-altitude sanctuary.

Regarding the trip booking; If it is possible, could you please send some money as advance booking, which will be comfortable for you and us too, because sometimes, it will be difficult to arrange such a recently open trip by an expert Guide and porters. My motto is to provide an experienced guide. Who is able to provide you with much more information entire trip? Sometimes, it will be difficult to arrange an expert Guide at the last hour, due to trekking peak season.

Please, to make conformation, can you send a US$ 100 between the two of you as a down payment as advance booking in our company Bank accounts by wire transfer or you can pay by card too, or Western Union Money Transfer / MoneyGram, whatever is inconvenient for you. Yes, you can buy a normal water bottle, but I am not sure bottle with filter for drinking. There is some genuine trekking shop, you may buy there. To make sure, you may buy before departure from home in your country.

For drinking water; you can buy a bottle of water and boiling filter water but it would be best to use Iodine or Chlorine Tablets to purify water or SteriPen for environmental concerns and help to save money. So, please bring the water purifier with you.

Regarding the bag for the trek; Porter will be happy to carry one bigger bag rather than two small bags. If you already have a rucksack, please bring with you a rucksack rather than a duffle bag/suitcase. A rucksack (50 to 70 liters) is better to carry for a porter.  But if you don’t have a rucksack, then no problem! brings whatever you have got. We at Nepal Mother House also provide duffle bags entire trip if you need them. You can put all of your s gears on it and porter carry it.

Regarding the gluten-free optional food during the ABC trek, it is possible to avoid gluten-free (wheat grain proteins) food. We have successfully organized some other trekkers who have the same issue of gluten and milk or dairy allergies.

Our guide will make sure gluten-free food is consulted with the cook at every teahouse for you. However, please the first few days remind him about gluten-free food while ordering the food.
