Overview

The hill station of the Australian Base Camp Hike is an ideal vantage point to view both sunrise and sunset within the majestic Himalayas in the north. It is considered to be one of the best and most effortless short-access trekking routes that goes through the beautiful middle-hill villages of numerous ethnic communities. You have a great chance to see incredible views with changing colors from silvery to golden, plunk up in line wearing a veil in the endless snowcapped, ever-smiling tower, explore local culture, and learn their traditional customs, which are the main attractions for trekkers.

Pokhara Australian Base Camp Hike, known as Dhampus Sarangkot Trekking, is a rather short course compared to others, offering an opportunity to observe the fascinating culture and customs of Nepal’s western mid-hill communities. Inhabitance by friendly Gurung and Magar communities: Dhampus is a beautiful village with some slate-roofed houses, a paved courtyard, and a Buddhist monastery.

The trip will remain ideal for those wishing to experience Nepal’s mountain scenery and ethnic culture within a short time. The spectacular mountain scenery from Australia Camp above the Dhampus, Machhapuchhre (Mt. Fishtail), 6,993 m, Annapurna I (8,091 m), to Annapurna IV (7,525 m), Annapurna South (7,819 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Nilgiri (6,940 m), Thapa Peak (6,015 m), Tukche Peak (6,920 m), Mardi Himal (5,588 m), Gangapurna (7,483 m), Lamjung Himal (6,931 m), etc. are the main attraction of the Pokhara Australian Camp. And enchanting views of Pokhara Valley and the Phewa Lake can be seen from the Sarangkot viewpoint. Australian Base Camp (2,065 m) is easy to access from Pokhara, a short-distance 45- to 1-hour drive through the picturesque Naudanda, via the most popular Dhampus village, and a day's hike from Australian Base Camp to Pokhara.

The Australian Base Camp Trek is a highly recommended short trek that can be arranged for whole years. It would be our great pleasure to make your holidays as relaxing and comfortable as you wish with our life-experienced staff. We, “Nepal Mother House Treks,” arrange the Sarangkot Sunrise Hike according to your holiday phase and interest. We are more than happy to coordinate the Australia Base Camp Hike, and you are heartily welcome to join us.

Then the trail goes through the farm terrace with the village of the hill at Dhampus (1580 m), which offers spectacular mountain vistas with local culture. It has been running until now and farther can be seen in the Pokhara valley. The houses here have picturesque traditional architecture and style. Continue hiking to the Australian Base Camp (2,065 m), through the hilly ridge with beautiful scenery.  Australian Base Camp (2,065 m) offers the best sunset and sunrise views. You are rewarded with great views of the mountains and people's cultures. Stay overnight at

Day Highlights

As the sun rises, you are treated to an incredible view of the nearby mountains on the skyline. Following breakfast, the trail descends slightly to the Noudanda and winds through the forest to Sarangkot, today's destination. Then follow the wide, level trail along the hill ridge to the ethnically diverse, densely populated settlement. The vista is beautiful on both sides; the right side offers the edge of Pokhara Valley; Fewa Lake is remarkable with a Tample Island; and hillside field terraces are painted by vegetation. After 5 to 6 hours of walking through the Naudanda, we will get to Sarangkot for a stay-over night. The view of snow-capped mountains is fantastic and the view of Pokhara Valley is also spectacular. And during the night, there are excellent lights.

Day Highlights

We will enjoy a hot breakfast while taking in the breathtaking view of the mountains after the stunning sunrise. The path descends steeply through the village, where local children are often playful and say "Namaste" (a greeting) in a non-verbal way. After 9/10, we witness numerous paragliders taking to the blue sky, accompanied by a serene view of Fewa Lake and a snow-capped, magnificent Himalayan panorama. After 1:30 hours of walking, we will get to the to the road edge of the lake, and then we will take a boat to get to the hotel. Rest of the day, we take rest or go shopping and stay over nights at the hotel. Today is free or last minute shopping for souvenirs or gifts for your family, friends, or relatives until your departure flight/drive. Then you’re onward to your destination, or you may join some other activities.
