Overview

The Chandragiri Range edges along the southeastern part of Kathmandu Valley at an elevation of 2275 m. There are so many interesting stories about Chandra Giri Hill. Legend has it that this summit was once so rich in Chandan (Sandalwood) trees that Goddess Parvati herself, the mythical mother of all living beings, rummaged around its foothills to look for them. Some scholars believe that the name Chandragiri was derived from the original Chandan-Giri, meaning mountain in Sanskrit, although, considering the exploits of Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher, it might be equally tempting to attribute the name to him.

Chandragiri Hike is an exotic vacation for those who are extremely interested in seeing the varieties of birds at the closest distance from Kathmandu Valley. Here you can see Red-vented Bulbul, Great Egret, Grey Wagtail, House Crow, House Sparrow, Little Egret, Oriental Turtle Dove, Spotted Dove, Steppe Eagle, Kingfishers, Common Myna, Indian Pond Heron, Tit, and so many others. Many medical plants of Nepal have been found in the Chandragiri jungle sub-tropical zone (1,000–2275 m). This Magic Shangri-La of Nepal offers the scenic ecstasy of the Kathmandu valley and unparalleled sunrises. The warm home of leopards, barking deer, jackals, bears, red cats, and other types of wild animals is Chandragiri Hill, an incredible sight. Chandragiri Hiking is a good first trip near Kathmandu, which we offer to our clients who are not much more interested in seeing city life but want to see the real village life of Nepal within a short duration. You will trek through the jungle and small villages. You will enjoy rural life while on this short trek. The trek starts from Matatirtha, 10 km from Kathmandu city center, and ends in Dakshinkali, which is a famous goddess of Hindu devotees.

Nepal Mother House Treks arranges the Chandragiri Hill Hiking program for travelers with small children or who suffer from altitude sickness but still want a Nepalese mountain experience. This trip is available at any time as a teahouse trek and is suitable for every individual and group traveler in Nepal.
