Overview

Bimthang is located on the Manaslu Trekking Route, beyond the Larkya La Pass on the Gorkha side, and is only a day's hike from Dharapani, the starting point for the Thorong La Pass trip. Trekking in Bhimtang is known as the Manaslu Short Trek or Mini Manaslu Trek. The Manaslu Short Trek, also known as the Mini Manaslu Trek, caters to trekkers seeking a quick glimpse of the stunning Himalayan scenery, which includes Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), amazing glaciers, tranquil lakes, and a distinct culture. The short trek is an excellent option if you do not have enough time to complete the entire Manaslu Circuit trip.

The main destination of the Short Manaslu Trek is Bhimtang, a truly heavenly place. It is located east of Manang in Tilje VDC at an elevation of 3,590 meters, on the lap of the Himalayas, bowl-shaped, surrounded by mountains and many hillocks. Bhimtang is an excellent choice for those looking to get away from the crowds and hike through beautiful natural scenery in a short period. Bhimtang is also known as Bintang or Bhimthang. Bhimtang was once a salt trading point between Nepal and Tibet, but it is now better known as the Manaslu Mini Trekking Route. After crossing the Larkya La Pass (5,160 m), trekkers can rest and observe Mother Nature in Bhimtang before returning to the bustling city. The Manaslu Short Trek can take a minimum of five days to more than three weeks; combine it with the Annapurna Circuit Trekking classical route and side trips. However, because this excursion is a shorter version of Manaslu trekking, we at Nepal Mother House recommend that you spend six days exploring the region's main attractions.

The journey begins in Dharapani after driving from Kathmandu via Besisahar and turning in the right direction, following the bank of the Dudh Khola (river) with pine and oak forests through the historical and cultural rural villages of Thonje (1,965 m), Tilije (2,300 m), Goa/Gho (2,515 m), Kharche (2,700 m), and Yak Kharka (3,020 m), and finally arriving at the beautiful Bhimtang village. While hiking from Dharapani to Bhimtang, you will see many trekkers coming down from Larkya La Pass. The Ponkar Glacier and Kechakyu Khola Glacier emerge from the Himlung Himal, forming a U shape. The tranquil Ponkar Lake (3,965 m) and Nayamla Tal are breathtaking just beneath the massive Himalayan range. The majestic mountains you see surround your right side: Phungi Himala (6,538 m), Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), Manaslu North (7,157 m), Larke Peak (6,249 m), Cheo (6,812 m), Himlung Himal (7,126 m), Nemjung Himal (7,140 m), Kangaru Himal (6,981 m), and many other beautiful mountains are wonderful.

Bhimtang is one of the best trekking routes for travelers on a short vacation. The Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), also known as the Manaslu Short Trip, conducts this trip.  It is a composition of mountain scenery, natural beauty, unique culture and vegetation, and wildlife. We at Nepal Mother House Treks are glad to organize Manaslu Short Trekking by expert local guides and porters per your holiday schedule and requirements. The Manaslu Bhimtang Short Trek is best even during the winter season. Except for the monsoon, it is the best time of the year. Why not join us for a holiday at the foot of the Himalayas?

And again drive Besisahar to Dharapani (34.8 Km) by jeep or local bus for 3 to 4 hours through the Nagdi, Bhulbhule, Sange, Chame, Tall, Dharapani, can see wonderful Manaslu, Annapurna II scenery, and others majestic mountains. Stay overnight at the tea house.

Day Highlights

Dharapani is the main entry point of the Manaslu Circuit trip reverse way. Just a few people do Larkya La Pass from this side. So you will see just a few trekkers heading up as your companion. After having breakfast, your Mini trip to Manaslu begins from Dharapani. There is a checkpoint of the ACAP and MCAP before turning the right side of Dharapani, our Guide will check in all requiring permits here. First, you will cross the bridge at Marsyandi River and follow the Dhudh Khola as tributes to the Main River. You will walk on a wider road until Tilje but rarely dive vehicles on this road. If you walk 30 minutes west from Tilije/Tiliche, get to its religious Pyakane cave. And you may visit Tamang Gompa which is situated in the northeast of Thonche village, about an hour's walk. There is significance in Buddha’s statue and other deities, with religious scriptures and holy books in the Monastery. It is a nice place to stop having a cup of tea and break. After this most of the time, the trail goes through the river bank and oak and pine forest with beautiful Gurung villages and finally gets to Goa/Gho (2,515m). Stay overnight at the teahouse.

Day Highlights

This is your second hike; it is a pleasant walk through the sub-tropical jungle and rural villages. People here are mostly doing agriculture and animal husbandry. Often you see a herd of sheep, cows, and yaks. Before to get Toemro can see Mt. Manaslu (8,163m), this is the first view of Manaslu on your trip. The trail keeps on through the jungle with the sound of birds and ranging river to the Karche (2,700m) and walk further across the bridge to get to Yak Kharka, where you will have lunch. There is no proper place to get meals till Bhimtang. After having lunch you start to walk, the trail is much harder due to stepping up. Finally, you will get to a tiny valley at Bhimtang about 4 to 5 walks walking. Stay overnight at Tea house.

Day Highlights

This is the most important day of the trip. As Bhimtang is the key destination of this trip, after having breakfast, you will hike around the Bhimtang with personal gear and drinking water. Bhimtang is a beautiful place full of natural beauty. As it is surrounded by the White Mountains time people called it a bowl of silver. Ponkar Lake, Nayamlo Tal, Ponkar Glacier, Kechakyu, and Suti Glacier are the main attractions of Bhimtang. While walking above the Ponkar Lake you will get in viewpoint, from where many mountains including Manaslu North (7,157m), Lamjung Himal (6,983m), Larkya Peak (6,249m), Himlunhg Himal (7,126m), Cheo Himal (6,812m) and many more can be observed. After breakfast, our Guide let you follow the gentle trail north of the Bhimtang and take the right trail from the junction. About a 3km trail, you will get to Dingboche Kharka at the foot of the Larkya La. The trail is not clear due to just a few trekkers visiting here, you walk ahead on a slippery track over loose dust and gravel that climbs the steep side of the moraine. You will see the junction of three glaciers: clockwise the Kechakyu, Suti, and Ponkar. The Suti glacier is hidden behind the western Tibikle Panlemu Danda. The medial Nayamlo Tal is trapped between the first two moraines and the track works its way to and around the larger Ponkar Tal between the central and third moraine. Thrill to the majesty, silence, and glacial power. Or if you are full of physical fitness then, you may ascend all the way to Larkya La Pass (5,160m) and back to Bhimtang for an overnight stay.

Day Highlights

The trail descends along the fig tree and rhododendron fortes, through the rocky riverbed and sliding hillsides to several small green villages. Eventually, after a long but very scenic day, we reach the large village of Tilje, inhabitants of a mix of Manang is (of Tibetan descent) and Chettris (Hindus), so have a unique architecture and culture and eat mixed foods - Dal Bhat, buckwheat Dhido, Tsampa, and Tibetan salt-tea. We will stay overnight at the teahouse.Tea House

Day Highlights

It's an easy trekking day following the Dudh Khola through bamboo forests about 1½ to 2 hours walk down, we see ahead marks of ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) board at Dharapani. Now we are in Annapurna Circuit Trekking main trail, an atmospheric Tibetan village with prayer flags fluttering at the gomba in Thongje. From Dhrapani, the road has been building; you may drive from here to Besisahar by jeep or bus. We'll have a bumpy drive to Besisahar . In the morning we will back to Kathmandu with our scenic driving, so we'll try to head off early and stop for lunch en route back. It is a different world back in the Nepali hills, and the gentle light sends us on our way back to the bustle of Nepal's capital city Kathmandu. A celebration is definitely in order tonight!
