Overview

The Langtang Valley Trek explores the beautiful Langtang region, and the trail goes along the Langtang National Park, home to numerous flora and fauna. The Langtang region offers some adventurous short treks, and Langtang Valley Trekking is one of them. The starting point of the trek is located north of Kathmandu, which is easily accessible with a 7- to 8-hour drive. Unlike other famous trekking regions, the Langtang region sees relatively few crowds. The trail is tranquil, and you will get plenty of time to relax and unwind.

You will trek through fine villages like Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, Kyanjin Gompa, and many others as you traverse the beautiful Langtang Valley. Many parts of the trail pass through lush forests of rhododendron (the national flower), fir, pine, juniper, maple, oak, and bamboo. Further, you will be walking alongside lovely waterfalls, enjoying stunning landscapes, giant glaciers, and views of snow-capped Himalayan mountains like Langtang Lirung (7,245 m), Ganesh Himal (7,422 m), Dorje Lhakpa (6,966 m), Kimsung (6,781 m), Yansa YansaTsenji (6,575 m), Gang Chenpo (6,388 m), Naya Kanga (5,846 m), and numerous others.

The highest points of Lang Tang Trekking Nepal are Tserko Ri (5,000 m) and Kyanjin Ri (4,770 m). Kyanjin Ri is accessible above Kyanjin Gompa in 2 hours, where trekkers hike to witness a gorgeous sunrise and acclimatize, whereas Tserko Ri is within 3 to 4 hours' walking distance from Kyinjin Gumba. Then, retrace your steps to the Langtang Village, GhodetabelaLama Hotel, and Rimche, where the trail branches off to an alternative route leading to Sherpa Gaun (2,563 m). The following day, continue to Khanjima and descend to Syabrubesi, from where you will drive back to Kathmandu.

The Langtang Valley Trek presents the distinct lifestyle and culture of Tamangs and Sherpas. Along the trail, there are many stupas, monasteries, chortens, and prayer flags. If you're lucky, you may also spot wildlife such as musk deer, blue goats, Himalayan black bears, and red pandas.

The 11-day Langtang Valley Trek is the ideal package for experiencing the breathtaking beauty of the Himalayas.  The scenery en route is reminiscent of enchanting tales. The locals are friendly and welcoming as well. Refer to our Langtang Valley Trek itinerary for more information on the route. Langtang Valley Trek Itinerary

Upon arrival at the international airport, our waiting support team will meet and greet you at the airport, assist you, and transfer you to the hotel. Trekking preparation and permit organization day. Please check your insurance details and have a copy of your travel medical insurance policy with you.

Day Highlights

Our guide and porter come to your hotel in the morning according to the previous day's conversation. Then we head north out of Kathmandu to Syabru Besi, about a 5- to 6-hour scenic drive by bus or Land Cruiser (depending on group size). The scenery of foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabrubesi goes through the Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati, and Dhunche; you feel as if you are heading towards deep land. As you pass along the road by the bank of the Trishuli River, you catch glimpses of Ganesh Himal, terraced fields, and green hills. Behind Trisuli Bazaar, the road is tricky because of the grubby road. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day Highlights

On the first day of trekking, we feel very excited. The first part of the trail crosses Bhote Koshi, follows the Langtang Khola, and gradually climbs to Bamboo at an elevation of 1960 meters. Enjoy yourself in the rhododendron and bamboo forests. The variety of wildlife includes yellow-throated martens, wild boars, langur monkeys, red pandas, and Himalayan black bears that all inhabit this forest. Afterwards, your trek ascends gently to Rimche (2400m) through Bamboo, which lies at the bank of Langtang Khola with only a few houses. Probably, we will have lunch at this place if you like. And at the end of the trail, we arrive at the Lama Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day Highlights

Today the trail climbs a steep forest slope toward the Langtang River. The trail follows Gumanechok. Ghoda Tabela literally means the horse stable. After reaching Gumanechok and Ghoda Tabela, the trail becomes gradual and offers beautiful views of the valley where yaks graze. After some time, the trail descends into a valley, crosses a stream, and climbs past several water-driven prayer wheels to reach the large settlement of Langtang. This settlement is one of the oldest villages along this trekking route, and the view from here is more spectacular as we get closer to the mountain. The rest of the day we walk around the village and stay overnight at a guesthouse.

Day Highlights

The trail takes us through a tiny village featuring stone-built houses, leading up to a chorten and passing by a huge mani wall along a gentle path. We have a chance to taste cheese and curd made from yak milk, a specialty of this place. This is a short walk but enough for acclimatization. The surroundings are also fascinating because of the famous cheese factory. This beautiful valley is in the lap of the Langtang Lirung and others around us. This location is a wonderful place to explore the local culture, which is remarkably similar to Tibetan culture.

Day Highlights

Today is a day for resting and exploring the area. We can visit the monastery and the cheese factory or walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri (4772m) and Tserko Ri (5,000m), which is highest point of this trek, directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang Lirung, Langtang range, Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji and the foot of the huge Lirung Glacier and Visit Padmasambhava Cave. Descend to the guesthouse to stay overnight.

Day Highlights

After sleeping in, we will have a hot breakfast while observing the surrounding snow-capped mountains with their breathtaking view. All the way down to Ghodatabela (2,920m), you will see fantastic views of towering mountains, which you may have missed on the way up. If you have the energy, you can visit the glacier after the 2-hour walk. Otherwise, come back to Langtang and enjoy the rest of the day around the village and mountainous beauties.

Day Highlights

After breakfast, the trail descends downhill to Lamahotel and Rimche and follows the right-hand side trail to Sherpa Gaun (2,563 m), offering fantastic views of the Rasuwa Valley, wildlife, and rhododendron forests. This trail splits off the route we took upwards shortly after leaving the Lama Hotel. The trail is enjoyable enough to retrace. We will stay overnight at Sherpa Gaun.

Day Highlights

Today, we will trek back to Sybrubesi, which takes about 4 to 5 hours. For a change, we will follow the so-called ‘high’ route back to Syarubesi. The route goes to the small village of Syarpagaon and continues onto Bhanjyanggaon and then to Khangjima before descending back to Syabrubesi. Prior to the construction of the new trail (which we followed on our way up), this pathway served as the primary route to Langtang.

Day Highlights

We should be ready in the morning in the hotel lobby to have your breakfast or ask questions of your trekking guide. We will drive back to Kathmandu along a road that passes terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements, and high hills beside the Trishuli riverside. It takes about 5 to 6 hours (conditional) to reach your hotel in Kathmandu by bus/private car.

Day Highlights

On this pleasant day, you may have a full day at leisure, either relaxing at the hotel or exploring the surrounding Thamel. Today is the day of ending your journey, so we would like to offer you a farewell dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant and hand over your trip certificate, trekking permit, and TIMS card as a memory of your Nepal trip. Today is free for last-minute shopping for souvenirs or gifts for your family, friends, or relatives for you until the departure flight/drive. We will transfer our assistance to the international airport for your departure flight to your onward destination, ensuring that you take with you the memories of a lifetime.

Essential Information

Langtang Valley Trek Difficulty

Compared to other famous treks of Nepal, Langtang Valley Trek falls into moderate category. The trail is neither strenuous nor easy. Still, you are trekking in the Himalayas, so don't take it lightly. There will be numerous ascents and descents along steep and rocky terrain. Even though Langtang Valley Trek 5 Days does not see a drastic change in the altitude, there are many past acute mountain sickness or altitude sickness cases. So, you have to be careful on the trail and make sure you get enough time to acclimatize. Besides this, the remoteness of the Langtang region can become a reason for difficulty for some trekkers.

Langtang Valley Trek permit

You need to get the TIMS card, and Langtang National Park permits you to go on Langtang Valley Trekking. These permits are issued by Nepal Tourism Board Office on Pradarshani Marg, Kathmandu, Tel: +977 1 4256909. If you are trekking with us, then we will arrange all the necessary documents for you.

Langtang Valley Trek Weather

A stable climate, pleasant weather, and clear views during spring and autumn make it the perfect time for Langtang Valley Trek 11 Days. The stunning views of the Himalayan Mountains and gorgeous landscape along the trail make it the most enjoyable time of the year to go on the Langtang Valley Trek. Likewise, the blooming rhododendron forests, vibrant festivals, and easy packing intensify the journey.

In autumn (October to November), the days are warm and nights get a bit chilly, with an average temperature of 5 °C. Similarly, in spring (March to April), the average temperature is about 15 °C.

Langtang Valley Trek Solo

Trekking alone in Langtang Valley is possible but not safe. First things first, the terrain of the Himalayas is different from any other trail around the world, which is a strong enough reason to not trek solo. The second thing is the documents that you will need for Langtang Valley Trek Solo. There are different permits you have to carry to enter the region, and getting them by yourself can become hectic.

Besides that, the Langtang Valley Trek (6 days) explores remote and isolated villages. The region is underdeveloped, and if anything happens to you during the trek, no one will be there to help you. Similarly, many steep and difficult sections throughout the trail need the guidance of an experienced team member (guide). With that being said, you can still go on the Langtang Valley Trek Solo, but it is not recommended until you are well aware and have firsthand trekking experience in the same region.

Langtang Valley Trek Guide

We provide experienced and professional trek guides during  Langtang Valley Short Trek 7 days). Our guides are friendly and have extensive knowledge about the trail and the villages you pass by during the trek. Trekking with a guide adds an experiential element to the journey. They will not only support you throughout the trek, but also inform you about the region, locals, and culture.
