Overview

The occasion of the New Year and Christmas just comes once a year, and most people from Western and developed countries are always busy with their business. When you have a longer holiday during New Year and Christmas, Everest Base Camp Trekking will be the perfect way to celebrate this occasion in a different way than in any other year. The weather is a bit cold, but when you are well-equipped for a destination that offers amazing mountain panorama views with fewer crowds, what could be better?

Your EBC New Year and Christmas trip starts in Lukla after a scenic 25-minute flight early in the morning from Kathmandu. Then, you will head to the Everest Base Camp through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and Sherpa Village, with their unique culture and breathtaking mountain views. This region is renowned for being the habitat of the snow leopard and the enigmatic "Yeti". While traversing the trail, you will encounter numerous suspension bridges spanning the same river; in the meantime, you may find yourself stranded for several minutes due to Yaks traffic. The porters from the low area (Solu) are carrying heavy loads to sell in Namche Bazaar during Saturday Market. The trail leads right into the heart of the Himalayas: the famous historical trading town of Namche Bazaar, the Buddhist monastery Tanbuche, the world's highest farm, Dinbucge, and Everest Base Camp.

“Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) itself, Kalapatter (5,550 m), Khumbu glacier, and icefall are the main attractions of this trek. Probably, Everest Base Camp New Year Vacation is one of the most well-known in the world due to its breathtaking beauty, which includes fantastic views of the southwest face of the colossal Mt. Everest from the closest distance and other mountains: Lhose (8510 m), Nupse (7879 m), Pumori (7145 m), Lingering (6695 m), Amadablam (6814 m), Thamserku (6723 m), Kusumkagru (6370 m), and so on. That’s why it is also known as Kalapather Trekking.

The New Year Celebration at Everest Base Camp Trip is an accessible short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Nepal Mother House Treks, with its extensive experience and partnership with government license-holder guides, arranges your New Year celebration, including permits, paperwork, transportation, and necessary items, according to your preferences and holiday schedule.

The trail follows the bank of the Dudhkosi River. To assist acclimatization, this first day Treks is only 3 to 4 hrs. But if people are still interested to do more activities they will have the opportunity to go on a side trip to monastery around in Phakding. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day Highlights

The trail follows the Dodh Kosi River banks and arrives in Tok Tok. You can see excellent views of Thamserku peak from here. The trail climbs to Chomoa, the site of an agricultural project farm. Then the trail climbs to Monju (2,840m) and enters the Sagarmatha National Park Area (1,148 sq km, established in 1976). Walking some distance up you will be at Jorsale (2830m) and after crossing the last (fifth) bridge, there is another long climb from where you can have a view of Mt. Everest, over the right Nupste (7,879m). After 5 to 6 hrs walking the trail reaches the street of Namche Bazaar at last. Stay overnight in Namche Bazaar and witness the snow capped mountains and Sherpa heritage.

Day Highlights

After having a late breakfast, take a walk for sightseeing around Namche Bazaar then hike to the Everest View Hotel. This is the ideal place to view outstanding mountains such as Mt.Everest, Nupste, Ama Dablam, Kangtegha, Thamserku, Kusum Khangru, Khongde and Khumbi yu La etc. While watching the spectacular view of mountains, the trail leds you in Khumjung valley, where can see Hillary School, an ancient Monastery with a yeti skull, Everest View Hotel (3,880m) and Khunde Hospital, and then return back to Namche. If you are still willing to go, you can visit the mountaineering museum and visit the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) in Namche Bazaar. Otherwise you can spend some time interacting with the fun-loving Sherpa and Rai people in here. Above the police check post you will see Sagarmatha National Park headquarters and visitor center; it is open 8 am to 4 pm except Saturdays and government holidays. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day Highlights

After breakfast we start our trek with a pleasant walk on a trail through the forest with magnificent views of mountains until Kenjoma, where the trail joins from Khumjung. After passing the small settlement Sanasa, the trail drops towards Phunki Thanga (3,250m). Then it climbs steeply through forests on the Tangbuche monestary, situated at 3,867m. The view from here is rightly deemed to be one of the world’s most magnificent. Kwangde, Tawachee, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse Ama Dablam, Kantega and Thamserku provide a stimulating panorama of Himalayan view. Stay overnight in Tengboche.

Day Highlights

After breakfast, our trail descends down from Tengboche, and through the rhododendron forest to Deboche we cross a bridge over the raging Imja Khol River. The trail for Dingbuche (4,410m) follows the climbing route of Island peak and Phokalde peak etc. It is gateway to Chukung, and farther beyond, for those interested in a challenge, the trail traverses towards the Makalu area and Hinko Valley via Sherpani col (6,100m) and Amphu Laptsa pass( 5,780m) trips.

Day Highlights

On this day you may have full day of rest, or there are some places where you can go for a day hike; up to Chhukung(4,730m) for acclimatization (a point for climbing the famous Island peak) or climb up to Nangkhartasang Peak  (5,083m) about two hours, offering a view of Imjatse Valley with Dingbuche village and Mt.Makalu (8,463m), Ama Dablam, Island peak etc. And back to Dingboche overnight.

Day Highlights

After your complete acclimatization and hitting the trail, you gradually climb up until Duglha, offering stunning views of Tawachee and Cholatse. From Duglha, the trail directly approaches the Khumbu Glacier for an hour, then left into the memorial area before reaching the village of Lubuche. In this stage the effects of the altitude will be kicking in and you can expect colder nights.

Day Highlights

After breakfast the trek continues to gently climb and after some time directly ascends to the nearby glacier. The trail going to Gorakshep is rocky and windy, but it offers the good view of Mt. Pumori and there are beautiful views of the Everest Base camp and glacier with scenic views. After lunch, we are ready for our adventure to the targeted destination and we continue our trek towards the Everest Base Camp and to the Khumbu Ice-fall. The path from here can be misleading, so follow the lead Sherpa, since every year the trail changes due to the movements of the glacier, and the walk is quite strenuous due to the high altitude and thin air. The walk passes over rocky dunes and moraine and streams until you reach the base camp. If you are here during the high expedition season, the camp might feel like a city! It takes 2-3 hrs to get to base camp, and after a grand time here, we go back over the journey to Gorekshep for the overnight at lodge.

Day Highlights

Very early in the morning we climb up 2 hours to Kalapather for 360 degree view of the mountain peaks. When reaching the top, you will feel joyful as you achieve the moment that you been dreaming of since the planning of your journey! A small rocky peak “Kalapather” offer sights beyond imagination as the Everest looks amazing, and the panoramic view from this spot is something to cherish, and you'll feel it’s worth the hard climb up to here and to feel at the top of the world when you can see to the South the Khumbu glacier sweeps below you, and you can also see the Everest Base camp down below on the moraine of Khumbu glacier and many mountain scenes; Pumari (7,145m), Lingtren (6,695m), Khumbutse (6,623m), Changtse (7,550m), Nupse (7879m), Everest itself etc. After breakfast in Gorakshep we trek down to Dhugla, and then stay high above the valley floor in Pheriche, in Imja valley. It is the only place in Khumbu where barley is grown in the highest place; enjoy the scenery and overnight to hotel.

Day Highlights

Today you can feel at ease heading downhill to a lower elevation from Pheriche. The walk is pleasant all the way to Tyangboche. You can see very old Pangboche, a Sherpa village, and further down to Tyangboche is one of the most beautiful place in the Himalaya. The first thing that comes to your eye is the big Monastery or Gumba, then the large field with campsites, tea houses, and lodges beneath the soaring majestic gorgeous peaks of Ama Dablam, Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Lhotse Shar towards Northeast - with many more peaks all around. Walk down continue to the Namche Bazaar for over night stay.

Day Highlights

After a long walk we'll have long last day trekking back to Lukla. We descend the long way before crossing the bridge and walking back to Monju before a stop in Phakding for lunch. We will be reminded again to enjoy the lush green scenery all around while passing through the incredible mountain scenery and local Sherpa villages until Lukla. You'll have time to wander around the areas and your guide will re-confirm your flight ticket. Enjoy the last celebration dinner with your crew and overnight at a local hotel.
