Overview

The Arun River White Water Rafting has four main river systems with more than two hundred fifty sizeable tributaries, and it is one of the most mighty and powerful rivers of Nepal. The major rivers are the Sapta Kosi in extreme eastern Nepal, the Narayani in central Nepal, the Karnali in western Nepal, and the Mahakali in far western Nepal. The Arun River is one of the tributaries of Sapta Kosi that flows into Eastern Nepal. In addition to enjoying your rafting trip, you have a chance to experience more than one hundred different dialects belonging to various ethnic groups on your trip. Meeting different ethnic groups of people during the rafting is all part of an unforgettable experience.

The 16-hour drive to the put-in point for rafting on the Arun River includes a bus ride to Hile and a 3-day hike to the village of Bumbling. Or a 45-minute scenic flight to Tumlingtar, which is the obvious and most convenient starting point from Kathmandu and only a forty-minute walk to the river. This 70 km of river action takes 5–6 days. The return journey from Chatara, the take-out point of Arun Rafting/Kayaking, is 16 hours to Kathmandu. It is also possible to arrange a flight from Biratnagar (a 1-hour road journey from Chatara), and the flight takes around 50 minutes to Kathmandu, and it’s an additional cost. This stunning Arun River is only available for those undertaking an expedition. The scenery on both the trek and river is matchless and untouched.

The upper part of Arun is one of the most powerful and respected rivers, exclusively with the unique Bublick and double catamaran in the Nepal River. It flows cutting through the Himalayas with deep and awesome gorges, lush valleys, and superb riverside beaches. The powerful current and large water volume ensure enormous and striking rapids are bumped into the length of this river journey. These rapids can be challenging and technically complex for the whitewater Rafter. The Arun is an outstanding choice for a long trip for those who are seeking real exciting activity and the adventure of encountering huge rapids in an idyllic setting. This is the first choice for those who want an expedition into the wilderness in Nepal. We “Nepal Mother House Treks” are glad to organize this rafting/kayaking trip considering our client's safety and enjoyment. The itinerary can be customized according to your wishes and holiday schedule.

Day-to-day

Arun River Rafting Itinerary

We fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar. The Tumlingtar flight is scheduled in the afternoon, and camp shall be put up in Tumlingtar itself. The afternoon could be spent in visiting this tiny village with its small tea shops and airstrip. Rafting guide will give you briefing for the next day trip.

Day Highlights

You will be served breakfast in the morning. Trek for about two hours at a gradual pace until Sabiya Khola. Rafting guide give you a briefing for the next day's schedule. Get the equipments ready to start early for the following day.

Day Highlights

After breakfast you will start your whitewater river rafting, and today is pretty smooth except for little rough ones of grade 3/4.

Day Highlights

Today is a bit more challenging than previous days. You come across quite a number of rapids one by one. The first encounter is a left- bend rapid, before the suspension bridge at Ranighat. A number of rapids follow after this; one after another we finally camp nearby blithe rapid.

Day Highlights

Today you have it pretty smooth and relaxed compared to the previous days. The Arun River now merges with river Sunkosi to form into a confluence of the river Saptakosi, one of the major rivers in Nepal, which further flows to merge with the popular Gange in India. Float along Saptakosi for another half an hour and we reach the site of a temple in Bara Chettra a Hindu temple dedicated to lord Vishnu. From here, we float for another half an hour to Chattra. Drive back to Kathmandu or fly from Biratnagar after bus drive.
